Systems Administrator

Overview

Our client is seeking a dedicated Telemetry Support Specialist to join their dynamic Telemetry Support team. The specialist will be instrumental in supporting and maintaining enterprise monitoring and telemetry platforms including Confluent Enterprise Platform (Kafka), ITRS Geneos, and OpenTelemetry. This role is vital for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of these systems through proactive management and improvement.

Responsibilities:

• Platform Support and Maintenance: Actively support and maintain the Confluent Enterprise, ITRS Geneos, and OpenTelemetry platforms to ensure system health and stability.
• Customer Service and Issue Resolution: Address and resolve customer issues, troubleshoot problems, and provide timely responses to ensure continuous system availability.
• System Improvements and Documentation: Identify opportunities for system improvements and efficiencies. Develop and maintain comprehensive reference and run-book documentation.
• Dashboard Development: Participate in the development of observability dashboards and configure monitoring and alerting systems as required.
• Implementation and Coordination: Plan and coordinate the implementation of system changes. Utilize various tools to troubleshoot incidents effectively.
• Onboarding and Upgrades: Manage the onboarding of new Kafka producer and consumer use cases, test and deploy software upgrades, and support telemetry agents.
• OpenTelemetry Support: Manage and support OpenTelemetry collectors and contribute to additional platform support roles as needed.

Required Skills:

• Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of the Confluent Enterprise Platform components such as Brokers, Topics, Partitions, and Zookeeper. Proficiency in Kafka administration, including software installation and configuration management.
• Monitoring and Telemetry: Extensive experience with telemetry monitoring platforms, especially ITRS Geneos, and familiarity with monitoring or analytics tools like Splunk, Prometheus, or Grafana.
• System Administration: Strong background in Linux/Unix administration, and knowledge of cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Security and Networking: Understanding of security protocols including SSL/TLS, SASL, LDAP, as well as DNS, load balancing, and firewall configurations.
• Programming and Scripting: Desired experience in scripting with Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar; familiarity with high-level languages like Java or Go is a plus.

Compensation: The target hiring compensation range for this position is $56.99 to $63.33 an hour, dependent on education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.

Additional Information: Experience with ITRS and Splunk is considered a plus but not required. The ideal candidate should be a highly efficient multi-tasker with excellent organizational skills and strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
