This role offers a unique opportunity to work hands-on with rare and delicate artifacts. You will be responsible for preparing these items for 3D scanning, operating advanced scanning equipment, and ensuring the complete and accurate capture of each object. Your work will directly contribute to the creation of a rich digital archive, accessible to researchers, educators, and the public for years to come.
Responsibilities:

  • Handle historical and delicate artifacts with the utmost care, adhering to strict preservation and handling protocols.
  • Prepare and style objects for optimal 3D scanning, including staging and support setup.
  • Operate high-resolution 3D scanning equipment to create precise digital representations.
  • Execute multiple scanning passes to guarantee complete capture of the artifact.
  • Maintain meticulous scanning logs, equipment calibration schedules, and project metadata.
  • Troubleshoot scanning hardware to minimize downtime and maintain high-quality results.
  • Collaborate closely with archivists and 3D production artists to ensure project success.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience handling fragile or valuable items with care and precision.
  • Understanding of digital capture workflows and basic 3D standards.
  • Ability to follow precise handling, scanning, and documentation protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work methodically and patiently.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

  • Experience operating 3D scanning equipment.
  • Background in museum studies, archaeology, or conservation.
  • Familiarity with photogrammetry or hybrid scanning techniques.
  • Experience with digital asset management (DAM) systems or metadata tagging practices.
  • A passion for preserving historical records and materials.
