A leading Midwest planning and design firm is seeking a Senior Planner to support vibrant community development projects. The firm specializes in planning, zoning, building services, landscape architecture, urban design, and community and economic development, with a strong emphasis on public engagement.

Senior Planners in this role contribute to a wide range of planning and design initiatives, take ownership of key projects, and collaborate within a high-performing, creative team environment. Work is delivered on time and on budget while maintaining strong technical and visual quality.
Key Responsibilities

Contribute to various planning projects including zoning, form-based codes, comprehensive plans, economic development strategies, and placemaking efforts for local governments across the Midwest.

Participate in both long-term and special projects involving community design, transportation, and economic growth.

Collaborate with other planners, urban designers, GIS specialists, and administrative staff to develop and deliver project materials.

Assist senior staff in preparing for and presenting at public meetings, stakeholder sessions, and municipal boards.

Create or contribute to visually rich and technically sound deliverables—individually or in partnership with team members.

Help foster strong relationships with current and potential clients to support future project opportunities.

Attend and support evening meetings as needed related to planning, development, and zoning activities.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience

3–5 years of professional experience in municipal planning, consulting, or similar roles within the private or public sector

Strong background in public engagement and comfort speaking in front of community groups and elected bodies

Advanced understanding of zoning regulations and processes

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a client-centered environment

AICP, NCI, or other relevant certifications are preferred but not required

Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams
