Video Content Designer
Overview
Placement Type:
Temporary
Salary (USD):
$74 to $83 an hour
Start Date:
09.30.2024
This role is remote, but candidates must be local to Culver City, Cupertino, or NYC.
This is far from your traditional position. You will be a go between from design and Content Design Engineering. You will be translating designs into technical products for our consumer video products. You will also be driving new implementation opportunities from a creative focussed approach.
You should be a designer first, but with impeccable technical skills (layout, typography, color) and a portfolio to prove it. You have experience with all file format types, image and video compression techniques, sizing graphics appropriately for screen versus print, and have an eye for color correction. Video production experience, animation, 3D Modeling and other motion based experience is a huge plus.
You are able to communicate in clear concise manner (whether it be email, voicemail or face to face). We build lots of decks to help illustrate our ideas, this is something you are well versed in. You are easy-going, able to multitask, can deal with tedious tasks and with multiple rounds edits. You are a selfstarter and don’t need to be asked to do things. You are dedicated to finding the best possible way to do something today, knowing tomorrow there may be a much better way to do it. You are level-headed and keep your cool when deadlines or other pressures develop. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are able to keep many different projects and priorities organized and moving in the right direction.
The files created need to follow user interaction guidelines; we need to be thinking about how the end user will experience the content and the app. We take pride in all the work we create (from templates that are in a shipping app to a spreadsheet or an internal prototype). We document how things are done. The process is constantly changing so we have to think fast, adapt and brainstorm new ways to produce results. We work with Engineers to develop tools to do our job as effectively and accurately as possible. We need to anticipate what we need from Engineering so that we can work together to ship the product. Figuring out how to turn short timelines and limited resources into shipping products is paramount for success.
A deep understanding of our Apps is very important. You may be asked to work on something that can’t be done with any shipping app, so the ability to articulate what tools will be necessary to design, produce and ship a product is key. We have to optimize content for memory and performance gains, so understanding how things work while maintaining creative intent is key to success in this area. We are customers as well, and often the first to discover bugs (whether it be debugging a crash in or realizing the user interaction may not be ideal). We test and troubleshoot all of our work to find even the smallest of things wrong and fix them. One pixel off is a big deal. Knowing color profiles and keeping them consistent is a big deal. Having all assets in the right format… you got it, is a big deal.
Education/Experience
You should be a Swiss army knife, with the ability to become an expert at any tool we may need to complete a task. Most of the time these tools don’t exist, so you’ll draw on your experience and instinct to help define the tools bases on the needs of the project. Expert working in iOS, Mac OS and iWork suite (Keynote, Pages and Numbers). Experience in Adobe Photoshop, AfterEffects and Cinema 4D required. Knowledge of Sketch, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor, Compositing, 3D Modeling and Rigging preferred but not required.
The target hiring compensation range for this role is $74 to $83 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
