Our global automotive and logistics client is looking for a Sr. National Manager ,EHS to join their organization for a full time direct hire opportunity. In the this role you will oversee the EHS department with the objective of sustaining process driven,safe work site to avoid EHS issues, which include prevention of injuries,environmental degradation, and health risk.
Job Summary:
The Senior National Manager of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing strategic EHS programs across all logistics and transportation operations nationally. This role ensures compliance with applicable regulations, mitigates risks, and fosters a safety-first culture that aligns with organizational goals. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in logistics and transportation, combined with a deep understanding of EHS standards and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. EHS Strategy Development and Implementation

Design and implement a comprehensive EHS strategy that aligns with organizational objectives.

Establish short-term and long-term EHS goals, metrics, and performance benchmarks.

Lead cross-functional initiatives to integrate EHS principles into logistics and transportation operations.

Liase,when needed between the company, insurance carriers, and regulatory agencies to provide assistance and resolution on audits, remedial actions, and all EHS matters.

Oversee inpections and audtis to identify and assess risk and put corrective actions in place to eliminate.

Maintain compliance with all applicable policies,procedures,industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
2. Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, DOT, EPA).

Oversee the development and maintenance of policies and procedures to meet regulatory requirements.

Act as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies during inspections, audits, and investigations.
3. Risk Assessment and Mitigation

Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential EHS hazards across facilities, fleets, and supply chains.

Develop and implement corrective action plans to address identified risks and prevent incidents.

Monitor and analyze incident reports, ensuring timely investigation and resolution.
4. Leadership and Team Development

Build and lead a high-performing EHS team, providing guidance, training, and career development opportunities.

Collaborate with site managers and regional leaders to promote a culture of safety and sustainability.

Facilitate leadership training programs to instill safety accountability at all organizational levels.
5. Training and Awareness
-
Develop and deliver EHS training programs tailored to logistics and transportation roles (e.g., driver safety, hazardous materials handling).

Lead safety awareness campaigns to enhance employee engagement and compliance.

Stay current on industry trends and emerging EHS technologies to improve training initiatives.

Extensive knowledge of OSHA standards
6. Performance Monitoring and Reporting

Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure EHS program effectiveness.

Prepare and present regular reports on EHS performance to senior leadership.

Use data analytics to identify trends, make informed decisions, and drive continuous improvement.
7. Emergency Preparedness and Response

Develop and implement emergency response plans specific to logistics and transportation operations.

Coordinate and lead drills to ensure readiness for various emergency scenarios (e.g., spills, accidents, natural disasters).

Act as a critical point of contact during emergencies, ensuring effective communication and resolution.
Qualifications:
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Logistics, Transportation Management, or a related field.

Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MS) preferred.
Experience:
-
10 years of progressive EHS management experience, with at least 5 years in logistics and transportation ( Must Have)

Proven track record of successfully managing national or multi-site EHS programs.

Experience working with regulatory agencies and conducting audits/inspections.
Certifications:
-
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional ( ASP), Occupational Health Safety Technologist ( OHST) or equivalent certifications preferred.

DOT compliance and/or fleet safety certification is a plus.
Skills:

In-depth knowledge of logistics and transportation operations and associated EHS challenges.

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in EHS management software and data analytics tools.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
