News, Content & Engagement Specialist (Internal Communications)

Our client in Forth Worth, one of North America’s leading freight transportation companies, is seeking a News, Content and Engagement Specialist (Contract) to add to their Corporate Communications team! This is a long-term hybrid opportunity in Fort Worth (1-2 days remote).
Position Overview
As the News, Content and Engagement Specialist, you will play a crucial role in keeping employees informed and engaged by curating, creating and disseminating internal news and content, supporting internal communication platforms and tech, and promoting a positive experience for employees through fun and engaging employee recognition events.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver creative, compelling and effective written/video/audio content, as assigned, in support of company’s internal news cycle and supporting strategies. Post and disseminate content on various digital internal channels to internal audiences, as assigned.
- Coordinate and maintain annual evergreen content calendar, creating content for D&I observances, feature articles (i.e. heritage, people, safety, service), weekly trivia and more.
- Provide strong photography and creative graphic design to strengthen content engagement and maintain on-brand appearance and tone.
- Support internal communication, marketing/collateral and event planning for BNSF employee engagement and recognition programs, including the Employee Appreciation Special, Employees of the Year, Fort Worth Family Day, company’s Annual Photo Calendar and more, as assigned.
- Maintain assigned internal shared corporate email boxes, addressing inquiries from team members and other stakeholders.
Other Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough interviews with subject matter experts and research to ensure accuracy and credibility of information.
- Identify opportunities for timely and relevant content creation and collaborate with the editorial team to brainstorm and develop new content ideas.
- Stay informed about current events and relevant topics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in journalism, communications, multimedia production, graphic design or a related field.
- 3+ years of journalism / writing experience
- A self-starter with an outgoing personality. The ideal candidate is energized by meeting new people and learning new things.
- Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail. Familiarity with AP style and other journalistic standards.
- Excellent oral communication and strong collaboration skills in team settings.
- Familiarity with basic multimedia and graphics content creation tools and platforms. Experience with Canva and Photoshop is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
The target hiring compensation range for this role is $32-39 / hr. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
