We are looking for an Intermediate Frontend Designer with a passion for creating engaging, user-centered web experiences. This role blends creativity with technical execution, requiring strong UI/UX design expertise and the ability to collaborate seamlessly with backend developers. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable designing thoughtful interfaces in Figma and translating them into responsive, functional websites using modern frontend development practices.
This is a hybrid role in Toronto (remote an option). Starting as a part time role and may ramp up to full time hours.
Responsibilities
- Design & UX
- Create user-centric website designs, layouts, and prototypes optimized for both desktop and mobile.
- Conduct UX processes including personas, site maps, wireframes, and design flows.
- Translate business and user needs into thoughtful design solutions that balance creativity and technical feasibility.
- Develop and refine design systems, visual styles, and interactive elements.
- Frontend Development
- Execute frontend builds with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (PHP is a plus).
- Develop custom WordPress themes and templates using ACF, and work with visual builders like Divi.
- Ensure clean, semantic, and maintainable code that aligns with accessibility standards.
- Leverage interactive animations and motion design (CSS transitions, GSAP, Lottie, or similar).
- Work closely with backend developers and project managers, to deliver seamless full-stack solutions.
- Participate in code reviews and support deployment workflows.
- Provide input on technical feasibility during the design process to ensure realistic solutions.
- Contribute to project scoping, timelines, and best practices within the team.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience in frontend design and development.
- Proficient in Figma, Photoshop, and Illustrator for design and prototyping.
- Strong knowledge of UI/UX principles and ability to create wireframes, site maps, and user flows.
- Experience designing and building responsive websites with a focus on user experience.
- Ability to bridge the gap between creative design and technical execution.
- Hands-on experience with frontend technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript; PHP a strong plus).
- Familiarity with WordPress development, including custom themes, ACF, and visual page builders.
- Experience incorporating motion and interactive elements with tools like CSS, GSAP, or Lottie.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across design, development, and client-facing teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience working in an agency environment or managing multiple client projects.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards and performance optimization.
- Understanding of SEO principles as they relate to design and frontend development.
