A top retailer is looking to hire a Principal UX Designer to lead the charge in defining the next generation of scalable, intelligent design systems—infused with automation and AI at their core. This role demands visionary thinking and flawless execution. You’ll turn complexity into clarity, translating dense workflows and massive datasets into elegant, accessible, and future-proof design solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate across engineering, marketing, and brand to ensure cohesive design across all customer and associate touchpoints.
• Build and maintain style guides and component libraries that drive consistent, high-quality experiences—now with an eye toward AI-assisted tooling and workflows.
• Actively contribute to design system governance, reviewing and guiding contributions to keep everything aligned and efficient.
• Use systems thinking to simplify complexity and create intuitive, scalable solutions.
• Balance multiple priorities and adapting quickly in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
• Facilitate Design Thinking to unlock creativity and alignment across cross-functional teams.
• Engage the design research team at the right points during the design process to ensure the right insights inform the work.

MUST-HAVES:
• Degree in HCI, Information Architecture, Digital Design, or similar and at least 5-7 years of experience in product design.

• Familiarity with engineering workflows, versioning, and how design tokens translate into code
(e.g., JSON, CSS variables)

• Deep understanding of how to extend a core design system through subsystems, shared patterns, and platform-specific guidance.

• Strong understanding of enterprise-scale design systems, including tokens, patterns, components, theming and documentation—and how they scale with automation. Expert-level systems experience in Figma.

• Have a fantastic portfolio of elegant design solutions.

• A strong understanding of, or direct experience with generative UX and AI patterns.

• Vibe-coding and MCP experience (Figma Make, Cursor, etc.)

• Experience leveraging platforms like Airtable to manage, integrate, and automate data across tools.

The target hiring compensation range for this role is $155k – $165k. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
