As a Pharmacy Medication Pre-Authorization Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing the entire electronic medication pre-authorization process, from submission to approval. You will collaborate closely with clinicians, clinic staff, and insurance companies to facilitate the timely processing of prescriptions. Your meticulous attention to detail and effective communication skills will be essential in navigating the complexities of insurance requirements and ensuring a seamless patient experience.
What You’ll Do:
- Review medical records to verify the presence of appropriate documentation supporting pharmacy prescriptions.
- Submit detailed chart notes and relevant supporting documentation for authorization requests.
- Manage the EMR work queue for pharmacy prescriptions, handling new submissions and re-submissions to health plans.
- Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and insurance companies regarding authorization status.
- Maintain accurate records of all interactions and documentation related to authorization requests.
- Verify active insurance coverage and obtain benefit information as needed.
- Ensure the proper pharmacy benefit workflow is followed.
- Adhere to established procedures to minimize patient care delays.
- Collaborate with the team lead and manager to optimize processes.
- Utilize standardized communication templates for consistent messaging.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with clinics, patients, pharmacists, and health plans.
- Access the EHR to communicate with clinical staff and physicians, using appropriate communication formats.
- Manage EHR in-baskets and referral work queues efficiently.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including department-specific responsibilities.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) to four (4) years of experience processing pharmacy pre-authorizations in a physician’s office setting.
- Typing speed of at least 30 wpm.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including excellent interpersonal and telephone communication abilities.
- Legible handwriting.
- Ability to maintain composure in challenging situations.
- Basic math skills.
- Basic computer skills, including keyboarding, mouse proficiency, and data entry.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly within a team.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
- Experience with medication authorization processes.
The target hiring compensation range for this role is $38.016 to $42.24 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
