Staff Product Designer, User Experience
Our client, a major warehouse shopping company, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Product Designer, User Experience, to join their dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in shaping the user experience of our products, bridging the gap between business expectations and user needs, and driving innovative design solutions. You’ll leverage your deep understanding of user behavior and design best practices to create intuitive, engaging, and accessible experiences for our members.
As a Staff Product Designer, you will play a pivotal role in the product development lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include:
User-Centered Design & Research
- Lead User Discovery: Conduct in-depth user research using a variety of methods such as user interviews, surveys, contextual inquiries, and user journeys to identify user needs, pain points, and behaviors. You’ll adeptly analyze and interpret existing data, including web analytics and customer support interactions, to uncover key insights.
- Drive Design Research: Independently propose research hypotheses, refine research approaches, and guide data collection to ensure the highest quality and accuracy of information. You’ll translate complex research insights into actionable recommendations that inform design and business strategies, constantly seeking to understand the “why” behind user actions.
- Anticipate & Mitigate Risks: Proactively identify and address potential risks during information synthesis, independently developing possible solutions for interactive designs.
- Conduct Usability Testing: Lead the creation of comprehensive test plans, scenarios, and documentation. You’ll perform rigorous usability testing against design specifications, collaborate with customers on acceptance tests, and ensure all findings are meticulously recorded.
Interaction & Visual Design
- Define Interaction Design: Expertly define and document design details through process flows, site maps, wireframes, and functional specifications. You’ll contribute to the pattern library by suggesting and creating consistent and scalable interaction patterns and templates that address primary, secondary, and complex use cases, including error conditions.
- Lead Visual Design: Define and document visual design details at a system level, ensuring accurate design specifications (e.g., position, padding, font size). You’ll lead visual quality assurance, rapidly prioritize and resolve issues, and create and define templates and style guides to ensure design consistency and scalability.
- Develop Prototypes: Design and develop high-fidelity prototypes and technical proofs of concept using various technologies (e.g., HTML5, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, PHP/Python/Ruby/RoR). You’ll build interactive models that can access live content and create reusable components to facilitate rapid prototyping.
Strategic Leadership & Collaboration
- Manage Functional Partnerships: Build, maintain, and enhance effective internal and external partnerships. You’ll clearly communicate valuable information, seek input, and influence technical outcomes by aligning shared goals with business objectives. Your deep understanding of market trends will enable you to deliver exceptional customer and business value.
- Influence & Build Stakeholder Consensus: Articulately and concisely communicate in stakeholder meetings, conveying complex information and addressing ambiguity to foster robust technology development. You’ll build productive, collaborative relationships and influence teams and stakeholders to take meaningful action based on sound recommendations. You’ll independently prepare clear, concise, and logically structured reports and materials based on facts, and actively seek and provide constructive feedback.
- Drive Customer/Client Needs: Cultivate strong customer relationships to understand requirements and problems. You’ll create customer journey touchpoints to anticipate product enhancements by preempting gaps and risks in the product experience, simplifying and improving processes to reduce turnaround times and increase customer delight.
- Drive Business Execution: Lead the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs, developing and communicating priorities, removing obstacles, and providing resources. You’ll measure progress, adjust performance, develop contingency plans, and champion continuous learning.
- Mentorship & Development: Provide supervision and development opportunities for associates through mentoring, assigning duties, fostering a team-based environment, setting performance expectations, and conducting regular evaluations. You’ll provide recognition, coach for success, and cultivate a culture of belonging.
