We are seeking a creative, agile, and brand-savvy Social Media Designer to support a fast-paced nonprofit social media team. This contractor will be responsible for transforming strategic direction and conceptual ideas into compelling, engaging, and brand-compliant visual content for use across national and affiliate social media platforms.
The ideal candidate is not only deeply immersed in the social media landscape but is also a designer at heart—someone who understands how compelling visuals and thoughtful aesthetics drive engagement and elevate brand storytelling across platforms.
Key Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with the social media team to participate in brainstorming sessions and creative planning.

Translate strategy and concepts into visually engaging social media assets using tools such as Canva (or similar platforms).

Design content tailored for various platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, ensuring platform-specific best practices are followed.

Create content that resonates with diverse audiences—ranging from humorous and lighthearted to sentimental or straightforward.

Adapt national-level content for use by local affiliates, ensuring consistency with brand guidelines while allowing for local relevance.

Deliver high-quality creative assets on tight deadlines, often with quick turnaround times.

Maintain brand consistency across all visual content, adhering to the organization’s visual identity and tone.
Required Qualifications

Proven experience designing for social media platforms (portfolio required).

Extensive knowledge of the social media landscape.

Proficiency in Canva and/or other design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite is a plus).

Strong understanding of social media trends, audience engagement, and visual storytelling.

Ability to pivot quickly between different tones, audiences, and content types.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Deliverables

Social media graphics and assets (static and animated, if applicable).

Templates for recurring content types (e.g., quotes, announcements, events).

Adapted versions of national content for local use.

Timely revisions based on team feedback.
Timeline & Hours
20–25 hours/week
Must be available for regular virtual check-ins and brainstorming sessions with the social media team.
The target hiring compensation range for this role is $45 to $50 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
