Job Summary: Oversee and govern all payroll operations and functions for the company’s diverse global workforce (10,000+ employees across US, Canada, Mexico, UK, and other international locations), ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of employee pay, associated taxes, and special payments. This role manages payroll software, drives process improvements, and ensures adherence to all corporate and governmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage payroll staff across corporate, retail, manufacturing, distribution, and international locations.
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for all entities (US & International), including complex calculations for bonuses, commissions, stock, and various deductions.
- Drive continuous payroll process improvements for efficiency, accuracy, and enhanced internal customer service.
- Ensure rigorous SOX compliance and support external audits.
- Manage and review all payroll tax reporting and filings (e.g., 941s, 940s, W2s) for federal, state, and local requirements across 31+ states and 100+ localities, handling over $75M in annual tax payments.
- Collaborate with Payroll Systems Analysts on system enhancements, testing, and conversions (Kronos, Workday, ADP, etc.).
- Maintain accurate departmental procedures, ensuring alignment with HR and Accounting policies.
- Monitor and manage the department budget.
Scope & Impact: Responsible for accurate payroll processing and tax compliance for a complex global workforce of over 10,000 employees across various business units (retail, corporate, manufacturing, distribution, and portfolio brands) in the US (31+ states), Canada, Mexico, UK, and other expanding international divisions. Accountable for managing payroll tax payments exceeding $75M annually.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 8-10 years of relevant payroll experience.
- 3-5 years of leadership/supervisory experience, preferably within global shared service organizations and matrix structures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Hands-on experience with major Payroll and HCM systems (e.g., Kronos, Workday, ADP).
- Strong understanding of overall payroll functions.
- Excellent organizational, computer, and customer service skills.
- Ability to travel up to 25%.
Preferred Requirements:
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
- Bilingual (Spanish).
Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages a team of up to 14 direct and indirect reports.
