About the Role:

The Community Engagement Specialist will support the internal communications team of a national non-profit by fostering meaningful engagement within its internal intranet and online communities. Working closely with a small team, this role is central to creating a vibrant, connected, and well-moderated digital environment for staff across the organization.

This part-time contract role is ideal for someone with a passion for building community, answering questions, and using data to drive insight. You don’t need to be a subject matter expert—you just need to know how to connect people with the right resources, and nurture community participation through moderation, reporting, and consistent engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Moderate internal community platforms to maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging environment.

  • Engage with users by responding to questions and encouraging participation.

  • Compile weekly lists of unanswered questions to flag for subject matter experts.

  • Build connections among users by directing questions or discussions to the right people.

  • Monitor and audit posts to ensure compliance with community standards.

  • Report on community health and engagement using tools such as Power BI.

  • Establish engagement benchmarks and surface insights through monthly reports.

  • Collaborate with internal teams on special projects and communication efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in community management, moderation, or online engagement (required).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a natural ability to connect people.

  • Comfortable working in a self-directed environment with minimal oversight.

  • Experience with data analysis and reporting tools (Power BI preferred).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

  • Previous experience with internal communication platforms or closed communities is a plus.

  • Background in Marketing, Communications, or a related field is preferred.

Ideal Candidate Has:

  • A passion for fostering inclusive, welcoming communities.

  • Patience, curiosity, and a “dot-connector” mindset.

  • A desire to support and elevate the user experience in a professional setting.

  • An ability to toggle between community engagement and data/reporting work with ease.

Additional Details:

  • Weekly commitment of 10–15 hours.

  • Role runs through end of October, with potential for extension.

  • Remote position; flexible hours, but must work within 9:00 AM–4:00 PM ET.

  • Reporting to the internal communications team lead.

This is a great opportunity for a community-minded professional who enjoys meaningful engagement, connecting people with answers, and using data to measure impact. If you’re someone who loves supporting others and helping a digital community thrive—we’d love to hear from you.

The target hiring compensation range for this role is $30 to $35 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
