This is a unique opportunity for a competent, passionate, and experienced Managing Editor to join our creative studio dedicated to supporting our Novartis client. 

● 4+ years editing experience within a pharmaceutical company or studio/agency environment on a pharma account is required for consideration

● Minimum 2 years management experience required

The Managing Editor (ME) is responsible for helping to maintain policies, procedures, and mentoring other editors under the guidance of the Editorial Director. The ME is responsible for ensuring quality of content, consistency, and possesses solid working knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and composition in providing clarity and flow. He/She will contribute to an efficient and successful review process utilizing meticulous annotating and editing of jobs while ensuring adherence and MLR requirements and compliance, which includes a thorough understanding of style guidelines standards and AMA style 

The ME will be committed to improving processes and collaboration, including workflow improvements to and efficiencies – while working to reduce potential risk for the Client and Aquent. The ME collaborates with the Editorial Director on any number of items impacting the Editorial Department from assessing hot-sheets and workload balance to launch coverage calendars. 

While pharmaceutical editing expertise is critical to this role, the ideal candidate will also possess a strong understanding of Pharmaceutical promotional and non-promotional materials. They are Leads always willing to jump in and help mentor team members as needed. 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

● Mentors and helping to train new team members on processes and procedures

● Manages multiple projects simultaneously with concurrent deadlines

● Escalates potential issues to the Director and willing to work with the Director and Aquent leadership to create solutions for continuous improvement 

● Edits /proofreads print and digital assets for approval/MLR (Medical, Legal, Regulatory) from submission through production proof

● Ensures all content adheres to brand, Novartis, and AMA guidelines

● Maintains compliance with Novartis and brand style guides

● Possesses excellent organizational skills 

● Provides precise feedback to multiple reviewers via electronic annotations, and at times verbally during live reviews

● Deadline-oriented electronically

● Understands the meaning of “owning a brand” and related claims 

● Technologically savvy

● Participates in live review meetings 

● Ability to make decisions and understand when to escalate issues appropriately to the right decision maker

● Ability to work with autonomy and independent thinker

● Keeps abreast of all guidelines and standards

● Contributes to efficiencies by being proficient with electronic and online editing and review tools

● Proficient with Adobe Acrobat editing tools

Skills and experience needed:

● BA or BS degree in English or Communications

● 4+ years editing experience within a pharmaceutical company, studio/agency environment or medical publishing company

● Minimum 2 years management experience

● Extensive experience and knowledge of AMA style a must

● Experience reviewing materials using an electronic approval system 

● Working knowledge of FDA guidance on pharmaceutical advertising

● Meticulous attention to detail

● Team-oriented and able to mentor team members

● Able to anticipate needs quickly in order to provide support for the client

● Creative thinker and able to contribute ideas to enhance overall operation of the Editorial department
